Warren Zevon – Genius Lyrics 4 years ago
He killed her.

The first two lines are his planning it.
The middle of the song is why.
By the end he has been arrested and he makes a smart remark about being a genius if he gets his record clean.

And, he will.

This song is exactly why Stephen King once said something to the effect that no music collection is complete without Warren Zevon.

Boz Scaggs – Lido Shuffle Lyrics 11 years ago
Love the comments, love the song. I thought i'd return the favor of some thoughts from others that I thoroughly enjoyed with what little I could add. So, my take, just my opinion:

Lido missed the boat that day he left the shack. (Most would say Lido made a mistake when he left.) But that was all he missed. And he aint coming back. (He's gone for good, doesn't miss it, and will have no regrets.)

At a Tombstone bar, in a Juke Joint car he made a stop. Just long enough to grab a handle off the top. (Lido is on foot catching rides. One dropped him off at a bar in a very small town or roadhouse in the country. The next (car) dropped him off at a "Juke Joint" which is a tavern known for music and dancing. Lido only stayed long enough to arrange a ride with a truck driver, where he used the "Grab Handle" to get in the cab.)

Next stop Chitown Lido put the money down, let 'em role. (That's obvious he was gambling, craps, probably in an alley somewhere.) He said one more job ought to get it. One more shot 'fore we quit it. One for the road. (At least he knew to quit when he was ahead, which I take it he was after that last role because...)

He's for the Money. He's for the Show. Lido's waiting for the go. (He's a real player, no amateur, and...wait for it...)

Lido be runnin'. Havin' great big funnin'. (Ok, he has to be winning as no one has fun and can afford to keep on the move if they are losing. Also, now we know where the money comes from for his adventure.)

Note* This next part is my favorite and God Bless you Boz Scaggs for getting it! (If I'm right)

'Til he got the note. Sayin' toe the line or blow it, and that was all she wrote. (Lady, Lido done left! It's great you'd take him back and all, but that is not going to happen. Big chuckles at the "or blow it", so girl, you had to have the last word...and now your story is going to be you kicked him out. Guess what? Your note just made Lido run harder.)

He'll be makin' like a bee line. Headin' for the border line. Goin' for broke. Sayin' one more hit ought to do it. This joint ain't nothin' to it. One more for the road. (We leave our friend Lido still on his road trip, still on a hot streak. We know it has to end sometime but he's clearly taken back his freedom and wherever he ends up..it won't be "back there".)

"Lido Shuffle", is a runaway road song in the vein of "My Life" by Billy Joel, or "The River" by Bruce Springsteen. While the images paint a picture a bit darker, I'm not so sure our friend Lido spent any time in jail, or robbed anything. Maybe he did, but I didn't hear it. I heard a "happy" escape song from start to finish...where we're left like Lido, wondering when it will stop.

One more for the road Lido...you might have missed the boat according to everybody else...but you gone, and that was all you missed.
