Nirvana – Sliver Lyrics 11 years ago
I appreciate this song for the complexity hidden behind the--what appears to be--a simple song of childhood memories.

To me, this is clearly a song about feeling like you don't belong to your family. Kurt had a troubled life with his family and didn't get along with them. Teen Spirit 87 nails the meaning right on the spot. It all comes together on the last line. (The rest of the song is him shouting out what happened when he was at his grandparents' house and him yelling, "Grandma, take me home.")

At the end of the last verse, "I fell asleep and watched TV. I woke up in my mother's arms." He STILL yells "Grandma, take me home." This indicates that even in his mother's arms, he still doesn't feel at home. And finally, at the end of the last chorus, he says, "I wanna be alone." Take that last line and think about it.
