| I think this song is written like a poem. "We're hollow like the bottles we drain" obviously implying they drink alcohol. "You drape you wrists over the steering wheel" means that the person who this song was written about, real or not, drives while the person is drunk. "I love these roads where the houses don't change" makes me think she likes the simple life. "Where we can talk like there's something to say" saying that she is hollow even further. "I'd like it if you stayed" makes me think that he (I think the other person is male) is considering suicide and Lorde is telling him she would like it if he stayed here and that things can become better. "Now we're wearing long sleeves" means that they are cutting themselves. "You buy me orange juice" I think is just drugs and alcohol, as orange juice is commonly referred to as orange juice. "Dreams of clean teeth" means that they dream of a better life than what they have now, a shell of emotions and feelings. She repeats "And I like you" because she is trying to tempt him to not suicide and stay with her so they can be friends and maybe they can live out their dreams of having white teeth. | |
