Maybe this interpretation is just due to all the ANZAC centenary coverage, but I can't help but think that this song is actually about war. The first verse could describe seeing his mates go off to war ("I get so tired of watching friends go down") The line "Should I believe the parade of clever lies" could refer to the propaganda used to encourage people to enlist (i'm thinking WWI & WWII). I don't actually know if the song's about that, in fact i'd be surprised if it was. Just a thought I had |
