| Josh Ritter – Idaho Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| Josh is from Idaho. He leaves Idaho. Wolves don\'t sing like him, but if they can they\'re in Idaho. And he lef there. But there\'s packing to do. He closes a pact and goes (great wordplay).\n\n"Love". He knows his path is no longer oceans. It\'s dirt roads back to that word.\n\nWho\'s a better lyricist than Ritter? Not many. | |
| Jason Isbell – If It Takes a Lifetime Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| Jason Isbell is the man and this song is one in a plethora of "straight to the point" good meanin songs.\n\nRight on. | |
| Jimmy Buffett – Jolly Mon Sing Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| Be the jolly mon.... You\'ll get screwed over sometimes but you\'ll always be taken care of. | |
| The Front Bottoms – Maps Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| This song kicks so much ass. | |
| The Knife – A Tooth For An Eye Lyrics | 6 years ago |
| @[bgarrity03:29793] "brought about by their incongruent alarm at a global recession." Incongruent against what? You do not use that term correctly, I'm afraid. In fact, you seem to employ diction that appears intellectual to the demise of your comprehension. Such a shame, as I think you have a point to make. | |
| The Avett Brothers – Please Pardon Yourself Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
'How do I know That you will never stop Knowing me and trusting me And loving me a lot" Some of the most honest and simple lyrics I've ever heard in a song. This entire song seems to circle around forgiveness and one expression of one's feelings. It's a kick ass song. |

| Daniel Romano – She Was the World to Me Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| Sounds like this is about a girl who committed suicide. | |
| Pinegrove – The Metronome Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
"Keep it together man We're all connected now Stay composed" He believes in a philosophy by which he considers all beings as part of a whole. Yet when he sees the subject of the song with someone else he can't help but feel emotion and jealousy. This is also represented in the lyrics: "I agree with your ideas but not your tactics" While he accepts this philosophy as basically valid, he still holds on to feelings of ownership and monogamy (for lack of better terms) through his actions. She, however, accepts the philosophy and acts accordingly. At least, this is how I take it. |

| Elton John – Levon Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
"he shall be levon" = "he shall believe on" I think this song can only really be understood or felt if you are a father. |
|
| The Avett Brothers – Vanity Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| The Bros taking one out of the book of ecclessiastes here. | |
| My Morning Jacket – War Begun Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
"Stolen as the war's begun." Easily about a first love. Right? |
|
| Bon Iver – The Wolves (Act I and II) Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| The most telling aspect of this song is the title. There are three acts in any story. He tells two here. He doesn't know the third because he's hopeful. We all know the third act to this kind of story though. So does he, perhaps. Great song. | |
| The Avett Brothers – Pretty Girl from Matthews Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
"Another year, maybe, three or four Maybe five or six or even more You'll find another man to take my place And I'll see you on the good Lord's shore" That's a good man's love right there. Pretty girls come and go, but it's the ones that matter that stay in your memory forever, despite life's circumstances. |

@[jtm101583:23519] Do I believe in God, do I believe in me? he explains it right there... |
|
| Dr. Dog – The Man Who Was Wrong Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
"Well it don't pay To stand up to the old days It's the cowards Who are fighting the good life" Can't help but think this song is about someone who left town becaus they thought they had to, for whatever reason. For work survival, to stay young, yadda yadda. But the good life, if you have it now, might not be wherever you go next. Hence, "I'll be a hundred years gone, but the story goes on, of a man who was wrong." |

| The Avett Brothers – My Last Song to Jenny Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
I'm a dude that never cries, but I do it every time I listen to any live version of this song pre 2010. The emotion Seth puts into this song is too much early on in the Bros' career. People have pointed out his comments when he plays it live. I think he does know how to read between the lines well (he recognizes it). It's so heart-wrenching to anyone who knows what it means to love someone who's drifting away but also "changing their mind" at the same time. It's hard to explain really. Hell of a song though. |

| Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| @[p3nguinpi3:21861] I think its more like, water flows by taking the path of least resistance. Having a big house, wife, car, etc. in this case is actually taking the path of least resistance in terms of the way society usually dictates how we live. But time isn't holding anyone back, we can always try for the unconventional path. | |
| Andrew Bird – Truth Lies Low Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
Lyrics are slightly off. Should be "you can play it alone" first verse, and also "suns that glow". Seems the song was inspired by some hate mail, but the lyrics also apply in general to those people seeking to always cut someone down for whatever reason. But just look in their eyes and see why the real truth lies low (is unspoken)... So empty that vacant blame when you're alone. |
|
| My Morning Jacket – I Needed It Most Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| It is only when you know yourself, that you understand the world around you. To have and to hold, that's the way it's got to be. Duh! | |
| The Avett Brothers – Denouncing November Blue (Uneasy Writer) Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
This song isn't really even about a particular relationship, just some universal truths. Don't we all write a book entitled "People don't know nothing!"? It's about not being able to lie about what every human being is all about. Love and contentment. Here's to everyone's open road! |
|
| Timothy Seth Avett As Darling – This Night Here (Something Like Hope) Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| This song is written so perfectly. Drunk guy, girl around wants to be with him, girl from the past maybe. But being together would just be trading sins. Something like hope, but not quite. | |
| The Avett Brothers – Pretty Girl from Raleigh Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
Writer knows he didn't put his best foot forward, didn't try. And it's not the girl, it's just that the writer had bigger plans. The girl alleviated the temporary loneliness, but its just a trick (see vol.2 live version, they emphasize "the trick, the trick, the trick!" Maybe she wasn't the best either, which makes the break easier, makes the song upbeat. But he wasn't lying about what he was. He was just killin' time before the Carolina jubilee! |

| OutKast – Aquemini Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
Second verse for Dre is his best of all time as a member of Outkast. Hands down. "It's happenin' again wish I could tell you when Andre this is Andre y'all just gon' have to make amends" Biggest critic of anyone is yourself. At some point you just gotta forgive yourself and move on. |
|
| My Morning Jacket – Picture of You Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
It sounds like a song written about a guy who couldn't afford the things a girl wanted during their relationship, but has these things now. Doesn't matter though, she didn't say she'd wait up for it. And actually to me, personally, the way these lyrics relate to a relationship I had is unsettling. I bought a coupe when I was with a girl and felt self-conscious about it, not thinking about the future very much (as in maybe we would need something to accommodate a child or what not). I used to joke about the car having just a door. Oh and the girl had cocaine green eyes, I know exactly what yim is describing here. |

| Songs: Ohia – Translation Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
This song is so incredibly haunting and melancholic. I think the song meaning can be summed up in the lyrics "there is nothing reliable like change, be your own guide". As for the rest of the lyrics, it's about two people that have a darkness inside themselves (as well all do, we are human of course). You can't spend time wondering whether the other will leave the relationship (cross the boundary). You just have to be your own guide. |
