It's about a guy with no confidence. He never can get with the girls, even if its a sure thing. He has anxiety and always finds a way to mess it up. He wants to control it but he can't. Then he finally has a girl, he's protective as he feels if she meets other guys then she won't want him. Its part of his lack of confidence again. He thinks she doesn't like him because he can't satisfy her so he thinks she's going to leave him anyway. In the end he lets her go as he doesn't see himself fit to keep her. He asks himself if he has any hope, he doesn't want to be alone. He's tired of being alone. He can't stand it anymore, he's afraid of living a life without love.

This guy is suffering through depression. He says he doesn't care anymore how people feel about him, he's losing his mind and he can't control his feelings. He has all these girls that want him (fishes in the sea) but he doesn't want them. He want a different kind of girl he thinks doesn't exist. If he could find a way to run away from his depression and life he would go. Cough syrup is a metaphor. It doesn't cure a cold it just helps you feel better shortly. He is a partier so when he's the life of the party with all those girls looking at him he feels good, but when it comes down which always does and he knows it will, he falls back to his depression. The zombies are those girls who are wanting to be with them but to him they are mindless like a zombie, he doesn't want to be with a girl who's like all the rest of them. The dark world is his depression and he is just looking fir a sign of something good to come (splash of the sun). He keeps running to parties and these easy girls (not for a relationship, just sex) as society tells us that will always make you feel better like he use to, but it doesn't work for him. He keeps trying more and more of this life as he doesn't ever want to come back down, even if it kills him.

Its about a guy who is in love with a girl he feels is out of his league. He feels like he doesn't deserve her so he tries whatever to please her so she stays. He feels like he is holding her back as she is so beautiful and has so much potential. He feels she doesn't really care about him as she has posters of guys she'd rather be with in her room. This makes him feel even worse, hitting his confidence as he doesn't see himself anything like those guys. He decides to change his plans as he finally realizes that she didn't care when he changed his life plans for her. He finally decides he has to go as it will be better for her, and him.

It's a song about a awkward, quiet guy who is afraid the girl he loves is going to leave him. He starts the song with a rational type of fear lots of people have, then he says his deepest fear of going outside of his bubble socially. Is friends are green with envy as they see his girl as a beautiful girl they only see in their dreams . She however, starts to act differently and he wants to hang on and marry her (left hand is the one you wear the ring on). He has a lump in his throughout as she can't say i love you like he can (sing the words wrong). Then the part about the movie I believe is his story. He ran away and restarted his life as he's running from his social awkwardness which he's ashamed of. He puts her on a pedestal so she stays with him, but now things are different. He thinks she is going to leave him and he can't deal with it as he is afraid of having to start over and fight his social awkwardness again
