to me this song is about memories, be it from a girl, a place or an event. its about the nostalgia you fell when you're down and start remembering the better times of your life. (you believe theres something else, to relieve your emptiness ) the protagonist is sad and feels empty and tries to find something to cheer him up, (and you dream about yourself), he remembers his past and the good times he had (and you bleed and breathe the air) he can 'breathe' the same air from his memories, he has vivid visions of them but this hurts him as they are already gone. (and it's on and on and on and on) this keeps happening to him, as his life goes forward he keeps missing his past. (i jus kid of died for you, you just kind of stared at me) he feels sad and empty over the things he left behind but this things cant really do the any good as they are not here anymore. but he still remains hopeful and thinks he can achieve that happiness again (we will always have the chance, we can do this one more time). as he said before his memories are vivid and he still keeps the with him (hell yes i remember aurora, all this time), using aurora as an allusion to something beautiful and alive that one can gaze at but never have any kind of interaction. (Take me now, You spin the sun around, And the stars will all come out, Then we turn and come back down, Turn and come back down) here he tells us that when he goes back to the places or when he sees the people he used to be with again all the memories come back to him. the big intense memories (the sun) and the small but significant ones (the stars), but as soon as the part reality takes over and they 'come back down'. (You believe there's somewhere else, where it's easier than this) the focus here changes and somebody tells the protagonist thinks that life is better elsewhere, away from his problems, and that he searches for happiness in other places (and you see outside yourself) and tells him that by doing this he is digging his own grave, ensuring his sadness (and you buy the hole you'll fill), and that he has made this for a long time, and doesn't seem to want to stop (and it's on and on and on and on and on). (on and on and on aurora, wait for every one, wait till the last one's done) here he begs for his memories to stay with him a while longer so that he can have enough time to cherish them before he has to let go of them. I think this an amazing, beautiful song. the theme of the song is perfect for it's melody, is has just the perfect amount of sadness, melancholy, hope and peace. its one of my favourite foo's songs and the ending always moves me. its such a powerful song because everybody has a memory that he wishes he could bring back and relieve for just a minute, and this song speaks to that and promises hope and an opportunity that you will get to live something similar again. i cant help but tear up when I hear it :´) |

For me this song is about some dude that is very conflicted. I think that the general melody of the song describes a guy who is sad and doesn't have many things sorted out. then this guy meets a girl that he thinks (or others tell him) should be good for him, but he has a ver dull way of approaching this situations in general, almost like it is a duty (You're my size I need to try you on ). he starts to know more this girl but doesn't form a complete opinion about her (someone in between the right and wrong), but despite him being melancholic and gloomy she doesn't give up on him (through everything you kept your wings apart (she keeps 'flying' with him)) and doesn't change the way he treats him or feels about him (trough everything you stayed the same old heart). then he starts realising that when he thinks he cant be happy and that there are no such emotions inside him, she starts bringing some joy out of him (and when i've had enough, she drains me when im empty) and she doesn't mind that all the effort is made by her and that its up to her too make this work (she fills herself she takes it all), she takes every bit of happiness she can get from him. he thinks that he is committing way too much with her, but at the same time some of her personality is being transmitted to him (in too deep, she's spilling over me) and he starts to accept this (go on and have it all). He then starts panicking, he thinks that they are way to different to be together, she is way to cheerful and happy for him, so he tries to look for a way out (Running through this maze you hold me in, searching all these days to find the end , your everything, your everything I'm not) but this collides with the part of him that enjoys this connection and that would do anything to stay together (but im anything im anyone you want). After the second chorus he reinforce the idea of this conflict within him, he doesn't know what to do (Your everything you're everything I'm not, I'm anything I'm anyone you want ). in the song dave screams this quite strongly which emphasises the struggle. finally, after the last chorus, the song goes into this hard, dark outro, he hasn't made up his mind yet and you can tell that he is having a hard time deciding. and at the end the song ends abruptly, leaving us wondering what his desition was. |
