This song is the story of adolescent mishap. It's about not listening to anyone even when they are clearly correct. The nature of the bands sound and style leads me to believe that drug use and self medication (see shelter song, which is somewhat of a precursor to this song) is the root of this song. "The golden throne" is a place where you get to with an inflated ego, denial and lack of insight. It's a place where you become blinded by fantasy, it could be described as living in reality that is false which is built within your own mind. (This is why I think their name is temples) while sitting upon the throne you are completely engulfed in lies to and from yours truly. Shelter song, golden throne, keep in the dark, and the guesser are all connected the throne is referenced at least once in throughout them. They were also the 4 songs released before the full album was. Also I think some of the lyrics are currently incorrect but in some cases they are very inaudible so it's hard to be sure. |

@[Lukathey:360] in interviews Kevin talks about how music fills a void within him (which I'm guessing is seeded with his parents getting divorced when he was young) I think that a common theme in innerspeaker is that he was filling the void with drugs and now he has had a revelation to stop and fill the void with something good and productive |

This song is about how Kevin Parker has a powerful psychedelic journey which enables him to see clearly once again, he started smoking so much weed that he got so far off that he doesn't even know how he ended up in this emotional swamp. Weed has the power to let you forget all your problems and push them back without dealing with them. When you are smoking that much weed though it tends to build up in your system and cause side effects even when you don't smoke. It's hard to explain what this song is about without the context from the other songs. They're all tied together and the common theme is emotional pain and struggling to deal with it. I have struggled with these problems myself and listening to this music helps quide me through becuase I know that someone else has gone through it and he's doing just fine making awesome. |
