The Old 97s – Big Brown Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
Definitely my favourite Old 97's song. I love the line "You made a big impression for a girl of your size". Awesome.

You Am I – If We Can't Get It Together Lyrics 16 years ago
"We might as well do it next week/'cause we've met everybody that we're ever gonna meet" is such a great lyric. This is definitely one of my favourite You Am I songs.

Richard Ashcroft – C'mon People (We're Making It Now) Lyrics 17 years ago
I have always thought that too, bakismaki.

Supersuckers – Heavy Heart Lyrics 19 years ago
This is actually a cover of a song by an Australian band called You Am I. I haven't heard this version but I'm a big You Am I fan, so I'd be interested to check it out.

submissions
The Breeders – Huffer Lyrics 20 years ago
It doesn't make any sense for it to be "crying". Consider the lyrics before and after that line.

And Kim Deal is a she, not a he.

submissions
Beulah – Popular Mechanics For Lovers Lyrics 21 years ago
I thought it was a reference to The Magnetic Fields too.

Anyway, I love this song so much.

Ben Folds – Hiro's Song Lyrics 21 years ago
I think paulcole has a point. It does signify that the guy is Japanese but there's no rule stating that Hiro's name can't serve two purposes in this song.

Dashboard Confessional – The Only Gift That I Need Lyrics 21 years ago
I think hand claps in a song are almost always a good thing. Nothing wrong with a little Weezer influence either, if you ask me.

submissions
Ash – Pretty Girls Make Graves Lyrics 21 years ago
Maybe Ash covered it? I find it hard to believe anyone could actually mistake The Smiths for Ash.

submissions
The Flaming Lips – Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell Lyrics 21 years ago
This is a gorgeous song...it's a toss up between this one and Fight Test for my favourite from Yoshimi.

The Flaming Lips – Fight Test Lyrics 21 years ago
I read something recently that Wayne Coyne purposely based the song on "Father & Son" because he thought it had such a beautiful structure. I think Cat Stevens and the Flaming Lips agreed to share royalties.

I don't know where I read it but if you google "flaming lips cat stevens", you'll find it - that's how I did.

Anyway, this is my favourite song from Yoshimi, with the possible exception of "Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell".

Dashboard Confessional – The Brilliant Dance Lyrics 23 years ago
This was the first Dashboard song I heard. My friend recommended it to me, I downloaded it and it hooked me right away. I ended up downloading every song of DC I could find over the next 3 days.

Veruca Salt – Loneliness Is Worse Lyrics 23 years ago
The correct title of this song is Loneliness is Worse. One of my favourites...

Rufus Wainwright – Across the Universe (The Beatles cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
I got this from this site...http://www.geocities.com/clevebeat/JaiGuruDeva.html

"...All together it means, "I give thanks (victory) (salutation) to Guru Dev (or heavenly teacher), om"."

Ian Brown – F.E.A.R. Lyrics 23 years ago
I wasn't particularly impressed by it until I saw the video clip. Sometimes it takes a really clever clip to get me to realise how good a song is. And this is definitely one of them.

Jimmy Eat World – Salt Sweat Sugar Lyrics 23 years ago
Post September 11 (I guess that's when it happened), it was changed to Salt Sweat Sugar. On the copies I've seen in record stores recently (I'm in Australia), they all say Salt Sweat Sugar. There's no mention of "Bleed American" anywhere on the cover.

Jimmy Eat World – A Praise Chorus Lyrics 23 years ago
I also just found out there's a Promise Ring song called "Why Did We Ever Meet?" and a Kinks song called "Rock'n'Roll Fantasy". Might be two other likely references.

submissions
Jimmy Eat World – A Praise Chorus Lyrics 23 years ago
"Kick-start my rock'n'rollin' heart" might be a reference to the song "Kick-Start My Heart" by...I don't know. Some 80s hair band, I think.

And Crimson and Clover is definitely by Tommy James and the Shondells. I think they did the original version...many have covered it.

Pavement – AT&T Lyrics 23 years ago
One of my favourite Pavement songs, if not my very favourite. My favourite changes frequently though.

submissions
Pavement – Grave Architecture Lyrics 23 years ago
Buy the whole album if you can get your hands on it. It's very cool.

submissions
Ben Harper – The Drugs Don't Work Lyrics 23 years ago
I think this song was written while Richard Ashcroft (the singer/songwriter from the Verve) was watching his father die in hospital, if you were wondering what it was about.

Because I'd heard that, I always thought it was about medicinal drugs, rather than recreational drugs.

submissions
Nickel Creek – Spit On A Stranger Lyrics 23 years ago
It is a Pavement song but Nickel Creek do a nice cover of it on their album. I was just listening to it before. I love both versions.

submissions
Ben Folds – The Ascent Of Stan Lyrics 23 years ago
Yeah, it would have to be my least favourite one too. I like it but nowhere near as much as I like the other songs.

submissions
The Smashing Pumpkins – Porcelina of the Vast Oceans Lyrics 23 years ago
I have a friend who wanted to name her daughter Porcelina. She had another couple of names, Pumpkin-related, that she was going to use too.

That's an interesting theory, Pyrrhic - a day in the life of a teenager. I'm going to think about that next time I listen.

submissions
The Smashing Pumpkins – Annie-Dog Lyrics 23 years ago
I read in an interview that Billy said this was a befuddled tribute to his girlfriend.

This is about the only SP song I can't get into though. I always skip it.

submissions
The Smashing Pumpkins – Mayonaise Lyrics 23 years ago
I think James Iha cowrote this song. Don't all yell at me if I'm wrong but I think I remember reading that in the CD booklet.

Anyway, this is my favourite SP song. I always thought I was the only one.

submissions
Radiohead – Just Lyrics 23 years ago
The video for this song is absolutely perfect! You couldn't improve it if you tried!

submissions
Pavement – Billie Lyrics 23 years ago
I can't believe no-one has commented on this song. I especially like the beginning of the song and it's probably my favourite track off Terror Twilight.

submissions
Jimmy Eat World – Believe In What You Want Lyrics 23 years ago
"Nothing can be good on its own merit."

That's one of my favourite song lyrics ever, not just from JEW, but overall.

submissions
Elliott Smith – Somebody That I Used to Know Lyrics 23 years ago
*agrees with everything that's been said*

submissions
The Dandy Warhols – Solid Lyrics 23 years ago
Well, the meaning is pretty obvious to me. I just wanted to say that this is my favourite DW song.

submissions
Ben Folds Five – She Don't Use Jelly (Flaming Lips cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
I haven't heard Ben Folds Five's version of this. I'll have to look out for it next time I'm on Kazaa.

geewey, I'm pretty sure it's "ghosts". "Thinks and goes" doesn't really make much sense. I don't think it's "hairdo" either. I'm going by the Flaming Lips version as I haven't heard BFF's one. They may do it differently.

submissions
Ben Folds – Carrying Cathy Lyrics 23 years ago
I think most people probably agree that it's about suicide and have nothing to add. All I have to say is that I think it's a gorgeous song. One of my favourites.

submissions
Dashboard Confessional – Standard Lines Lyrics 23 years ago
I don't think "it's crude but it will do" is referring to the relationship. I think it refers to drinking...

But this new diet's liquid
And dulling to the senses.
And it's crude but it will do.

submissions
The White Stripes – We're Going to Be Friends Lyrics 23 years ago
This is such a sweet song...when I bought White Blood Cells, this song immediately struck a chord with me on the first listen.

submissions
Oasis – Little James Lyrics 23 years ago
Yes, it was written by Liam, about his stepson.
