| A Day to Remember – Mr. Highway's Thinking About the End Lyrics | 10 years ago |

I don't think this is about a girl. The reference to "Mr. Highway" was from the movie The Good Son. ADTR, while performing this song live, sometimes plays an audio clip from a part in the movie where a boy sets "Mr. Highway", a human doll or mannequin, on a highway / busy road's overpass and basically says that Mr. Highway is suicidal before throwing the doll over the overpass and causing a huge accident. Here is the clip from the movie where that happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDLkFEhJVTw I think this is about people who are not accepted in society or are different from others, or even people who might be similar to how the boy in The Good Son described Mr. Highway. "Will we ever get what we deserve" feels like its saying that people like the speaker (I guess the speaker is Jeremy / the band itself) and Mr. Highway deserve better than what they have. I think this song is directed towards those who don't accept them or who treat them badly, which is pretty obvious in the lyrics. Keeping with the idea of Mr. Highway, if you read the lyrics the speaker might have directed them at Mr. Highway. (well not him specifically but maybe someone like him or a certain person in the speaker's life) I'm going to keep referencing Mr. Highway but remember that he can represent anyone really. "I've created a monster You bring out a side of me that no one should see So quit stalling, pack your bags Keep walking away Your life leads to destruction" If you watch the clip I linked above, it's likely that the boy in the clip made Mr. Highway himself. That's where the line "I've created a monster" comes in. The idea of Mr. Highway is pretty dark, with the fact that he is going to jump off an overpass and what the boy says in the clip. The boy came up with the idea of Mr. Highway the idea behind him, and because of how dark it is, Mr. Highway "You [Mr. Highway / the person the song is directed at] bring out a side of me [the speaker] that no one should see" "Keep walking away, your life leads to destruction" This line is pretty obvious if you watch the clip. Mr. Highway ends up causing a huge car accident. Maybe the person this song is directed at caused destruction in some way or another. Just my ideas. Hopefully it's not too hard to understand what I'm getting at. |

| I think the lyrics "I could pull the steering wheel" is another way of saying "I could kill myself". The rest of the song is about not having a distraction for thoughts. | |

I think the speaker is talking to a friend who is hiding his/her suicidal thoughts and depression from the world, and they are trying to tell the friend that they will listen to anything the friend has to say. "remove your hands from over your eyes" could mean that the friend is trying to hide their eyes, which can be referred to as a window into the soul, so nobody knows what they are going through. It could also mean that speaker has always been there and 'removing' his/her 'hands' would help them see that they are not alone. |
