I think we all agree that it is pretty obvious that this song is about a man and a woman (husband and wife). I think that it is the woman talking to herself or her - now dead - husband. Woman - I don't like walking around this old and empty house Man - So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear Her husband died. Ever since his death she hasn't felt like herself. It led to her even feeling uncomfortable in her own home. It could be because of all the memories. Woman - The stairs creak as I sleep, It's keeping me awake Man - It's the house telling you to close your eyes Woman - some days I can't even trust myself Man - It's killing me to see you this way She's been feeling paranoid. She might not know he's there watching over her. Her saying that she can't even trust herself makes me think that she is so paranoid that she can't tell what's real and what's fake.
