Using some information from Wikipedia, which states: "Perry wrote the lyrics, in which he expresses the sadness of being on the road and away from home, while also expressing admiration for the band's fans, and Schon wrote the music for the song." Pairing this with my own intuition and inferring, I can assume it's for Steven's mother (may she rest well), as he must have missed her greatly when away from home, as she was the one who encouraged him to join the band in the first place; come on - "This song we bring you"? Yup. And now, if Steven were to sing it once again, he probably wouldn't be able to handle it. Somebody, if you get to meet him, hug him for me, and give him my regards. Seriously, the man needs a hug! |

That one's easy. Yes, it is about a girl who's too young to have a kid, but she's going to keep the baby and not abort it because it wouldn't be right. The "papa don't preach" is "don't preach what you don't practice"; in other words, the girl's dad may have gone through with the same ordeal with the girl's mother. Thank you, Madonna!
