And yeah people do miss drugs, even though they may realize that being on the drugs caused a lot of bad shit to happen......in time, just like a toxic relationship, it is easy to romanticize the whole situation - even though rationally it is obvious that they are better off without the drug. As others before me have said i think that the "Low riding junkie girl" is just that. A girl who is a junkie. Don't know bout the low riding bit. "All I ever see around here is things of hers that you left lying around" I think in this line he is referring to himself as "you" That is, once the junkie girl left the character/elliott left all her shit around, that is to be specific for anyone who does not know, spoons, needles, cottons, bags drugs came in etc etc. And in this instance he is angry at himself for keepin all that shit around/continuing to use. She kicked new york like a curse And you traced her footsteps in reverse up to queens ..... am pretty sure that the actual lyric is " retraced her footsteps in reverse" My interpretation of that? basically that "she" left New York due to conflicts with similar others....... Completely agree with all who have said that the "you can do it if you want to" is basically a taunt, as in if you dare you can be like I am and live on the margins on the tightrope. The low riding junkie girl here and elsewhere is essentially an angel of death. She has no fear at all, and will do anything to get high. Now - to the main reason I logged in - to add something new: #1 - "Some empty envelopes from some other town" Go ahead google "empty envelope" It is a common kind of bank fraud, perpetuated by many minor criminals, many of whom are also junkies.....
