To me, this sounds like someone who is coming to grips with their position in the world. Someone that sees the world for exactly what it is and feels alone because he sees that nobody else "gets it." He mentions that he isn't depressed, he merely understands the way things are. In the same sense though, he feels guilty for this logic, as in order to accept that his perception is accurate, he also has to accept that he knows nothing, and is just as lost as everyone else because he is, in fact, still completely alone, despite his "connection" to the world. There is a struggle in these words, and it's less to do with any specific inner turmoil or cliche' feelings of loneliness or heartbreak. It's about evaluating truth and what it means to actually "know" something instead of putting faith behind personal, subjective perception. He actually kind of pokes fun at his own logic, and I imagine him smiling when he closes his eyes, because he gets that it's all one big joke. We know nothing. |
