La Dispute – 35 Lyrics 9 years ago
Seems to me like the narrator of the song is maybe somebody who was somehow involved in the design or creation of the bridge. Lines like "I pushed my palms against the table hard to see if it hurt" and how he talks about viewing it on the TV from the floor through a mirror. Clearly he is having an extreme reaction to the news of the bridge collapsing, but he doesn't make any mention of concern for a particular person either. Then the song ends with
"When did they find out the concrete gave?
When did they learn that the wires snapped?"
which makes me wonder if maybe he knew that he messed up and it was his fault. Maybe I'm wrong, but looking at the some this way gave it a lot of new meaning.
