| Bastille – Good Grief Lyrics | 9 years ago |

After reading the lyrics to this song I have to say I believe its a song about grief in any form whether it be a loss/death of a loved one/friend or a loss of a relationship. I can't seem to understand what the first line and couple other lines are referring to that states "So, what would you little maniacs like to do first?" "If you want to be a party animal, you have to learn to live in the jungle Now stop worrying and go get dressed" however, I feel like it has a funky vibe of a childhood show so maybe this song in reference to losing someone you have known since childhood. I also feel these lines also could be phrases said by this particular person the song is about or these phrases were said by someone who was apart of the memory that involved this particular person. the lead singer also has childhood references in the chorus such as "watching through our fingers" what I believe this line is trying to refer to is when your a child and you are watching a scene in a movie or watching something your parents tell you to cover your eyes to and you are just a little curious as to what you are missing so you peak through your fingers, I believe it's literal and in reference to a childhood memory spent with this person the song is written for. (not sure if anyone took that line as a literal meaning) its very relatable for any child. I remember my parents telling me to cover my eyes while watching the love scene in titanic and peaking through my fingers. The rest of the song is pretty obvious he is referring the loss of a special person meaning death or just in general losing a relationship. What’s gonna be left of the world if you’re not in it? What’s gonna be left of the world, oh. this doesnt have to mean this person physically left this world but by some means they left his world, meaning they are no longer around in one way or another. It’s such a shame we had to see them burn, shame we had to see them burn.." This could mean a literal burn of clothes as in cremation via death or it could mean burn as in they are no longer around. Shut my eyes and count to ten It goes in one ear out the other, one ear out the other Burning bright right till the end "Now you’ll be missing from the photographs, missing from the photographs":. These few lines means they were very close burning bright right to the end of this relationship and by stating it goes in one ear out the other and counting to ten he cant come to terms with the loss nor does he want to. He's in denial and cant seem to process it, this is another stage of the grieving process. In my thoughts you’re far away And you are whistling the melody, whistling the melody Crystallizing clear as day Oh, I can picture you so easily, picture you so easily " This is also part of the shock which is a stage of grief because it seems like it was just yesterday this person was around and things were happy. ou might have to excuse me I’ve lost control of all my senses And you might have to excuse me I’ve lost control of all my words So get drunk, call me a fool Put me in my place, put me in my place Pick me up, up off the floor " Obviously these lines are quite self explanatory and this is one of the final stages of grief where you are past the denial and shock stage and come to terms with the fact that this person really is no longer here. Hes describing that he is having a hard time and you'll have to understand he cant deal at the moment normally with what has just happened. Wow this song speaks to all of the different deaths and loss of relationships I've had and manages to still have a funky catchy beat to the point of where you maybe would not recognize it was a song about grieving. Its sort of similar to the song by the Bleachers "get better" |

| I agree with the previous posts it's definitely about a women who is in a relationship yet the singer finds her so interesting "there's something tragic about you, something so magic about you, don't you agree" the part that's tragic about her is the fact that she is in a relationship with another man the magic part is how fascinating she is to this new man. When he says there's something so lonesome about Her yet wholesome once again he's referring to the fact that she isn't happy in her current relationship representing that relationship verses the singer and her "wholesome fulfillment when with one another" "no tired sighs no rolling eyes no irony, no who cares" "no vacant stares" meaning lost in thought confused stares) he's referring to her relationship with the other man and the strain and pain of it she tells him her relationship problems and he comforts her. yet he says "no time for me" meaning she's taken so they can't completely soley be together "your familiar like my mirror years ago" I feel that line goes two ways one way ( he was in her same situation years ago so he understands) and secondly (shes familiar to him as if he's known her for years yet he hasn't) then he goes on to say nothing matters he just wants to be with her but knows it's wrong and he even feels wrong for doing it! But can't help it. He's definitely the guy on the side who is in love with her offering Her advice while she's in a unhappy unfulfilling relationship and he's there to listen and offer advice but she is stuck and stays in her current relationship she can't seem to move past it and make a clear decision of what she wants. She is tied down in some sort of way. She's stuck in the middle and can't fully let go of the relationship she isn't happy in, yet she either isn't ready to completely commit to him or something's holding her back to her current relationship could be marriage, a child so she plays both sides. | |

Love this song and what the singer is trying to get across through the lyrics! In the first line "brainstorm take me away from the norm" to brainstorm means 1. a sudden impulse, idea, etc. a fit of mental confusion or excitement. I believe this is what he is experiencing. He can't seem to figure out what's making him feel this way. Then he says this phenomenon 2. something that is impressive or extraordinary his thoughts take him away from normal life and he feels alive . He had to put it in a song because it's the only way he can express it and it's extroidanary! "Amber is the color of your energy, shades of gold displayed naturally" this is saying she has a warm aura and spirit he can't seem to put his finger on it! She's comforting and glistens like gold with her warmth. She glides through his head without trying he can't stop thinking about her) she lives far away but he can still remember her and still thinks about her often. Her aura is hard to forget and her spirit stays with him even from afar. He says "don't give up your idependence unless it feels right" meaning he doesn't want her making any sudden loves unless it feels right and she feels the same way" but he says "nothing good comes easily sometimes you have to fight" meaning she may have to ale a risk if she feels it's right because it will be worth it. Love this song what a special mending! |

| Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| In the beginning the house and the creaking represent her thoughts keeping her away and he says "its the house telling you to close your eyes" meaning that, she needs to not let her thoughts go there and to quiet them. Then she says she the truth may very meaning she is very mixed up an confused on how she feels about their relationship but she says "this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore" meaning they will make it through this rough patch. She mentions the old voice in her head which she is referring to their relationship In the beginning he says "he misses those little tlks" meaning he misses her old personality because she's changed. Then he says "we used to play outside, when we're young, and full of life and full of love" meaning in the beginning it was all fun and games no issues no rough patches they were in love. But things have changed in their relationship. So she says: "don't listen to a word I say, the screams all sound the same" meaning her thoughts are so back and forth that they can't be taken as true just yet. She's very mixed up and cofused but believes they will make it through. And he's trying to stay by her side and ride the roller coaster of emotions and mixed feelings she's having. | |
| Sister Hazel – All For You Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I believe in the song he's trying to say they have had lots of very high ups, and very low low's. Not too much in between. This has made him confused at times he isn't sure if he's suppose to stay with her, but he keeps coming back and choosing to stay and not walk away. He's trapped in his comfort zone of the relationship, and He can't pinpoint what makes him stay and keep coming back but he does everytime. She's worth it all in the end. But he isn't sure it will always stay that way. | |

| This is an amazingly written song! I loved it from the moment I heard it! since I'm someone who always looks into lyrics and their meanings I fell more in love with it as I learned the meaning! After hearing about jack and losing his sister I was able to understand his life and the grieving process he went through losing a loved one. It had me in tears reading line for line. It's a very relatable song for me since I know loss all too well and I just love the way he speaks of moving from the darkness into the light and realizing if you dwell in the past you can't have a happy future. I love the meaning in the line where he says "woke up this morning early before my family from a dream where she "his sister" was trying to show me how a life could move from the darkness she said to get better" he mentions many times rebelling and being in this dark stage of life after losing her and started trying to find ways to cope with her loss and they were negative ones he mentions doing acid and the entire song is so uplifting about turning your life around no matter your circumstances! Just love love it! God bless him and his family! | |
