I think this is a song about someone who is going to commit suicide. He ( or she) is starring his last sunset , drinking a lot just to get enough courage to do it. Scenery is astounding, but he tries to stay firm, becasue it's all a distraccion. "Don't let those precious moments fool you Happiness is getting you down A rainbow never smiles or blinks It's just a candy colored frown" At nightfall, he begins to hallucinate, with angels waiting for his decision "All the angels want to know Are you lost or treading water?" while he ponders on how things really are in life "Truth so often to living dormant Good luck walks and bullshit flies". It's also suggested that he had to fight against religious morals , probably a reference to those people ashamed of being gay amidst judgemental bigots "You fight for freedom from devotion A battle that will always begin With somebody giving you a piece of advice; By the way you're living in sin" After that, still completely drunk, he drives his car to a certain selected spot "When the headlights guide your way You know the place is right" and then he crashes and die "Tomorrow's not what it used to be We were born to die Happy yesterday to all We were born to die" |
