| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication Lyrics | 11 years ago |

A real life example...I know a couple of the guys from "Deadliest Catch". Originally, they were just old salts catching crab with broken noses and knuckles. Now most of them tweet plugs, do caveman insurance commercials, and play an animated character on Cars 2. The crew gets NO MONEY for the air time. Yet it the crew who takes the literal punches on deck which improve ratings. The cameramen drool every time someone gets into the bite. What would their families get...NOTHING. The "Californication" of average people especially through reality TV shows is making "wh***s" of us all. |

The song is sneaky. For the limited neuron connections, they play it for their girlfriends to get them in the mood [think the movie "Idiocracy"]. $$$$$ For those with full bars, it's an uplifting "help out your brother" mentality. $$$$$ Who wins regardless of translation? RHCP and their record company. It's a lyrical snuggy... |

| Johnny Mathis – Twelfth Of Never Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| One of the most beautiful songs written sung by one of the greatest voices. It has significant meaning as I lost a true love almost 26 years ago (he was 26 when he died). Just because someone dies doesn't mean the love does... | |
| Terry Jacks – Seasons in the Sun Lyrics | 11 years ago |

It's about Vietnam, folks! The song was repurposed to reflect the hell of the young man dying out in the open. Goodbye to you my trusted friend We've known each other since we were nine or ten Together we've climbed hills and trees Learned of love and ABC's Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees Goodbye my friend it's hard to die He's having flashbacks to his childhood and knowing death is imminent, fantasizing his "goodbye". It could possibly be his buddy was drafted with him and he's dying in his arms with these last words. When all the birds are singing in the sky He's laying in the field staring up to the sky after being mortally wounded. It's similar to the song "Momma, Look Hard" in the musical "1776". Now that spring is in the air Pretty girls are everywhere He wishes his friend to go on with life and enjoy the beautiful parts of it. Think of me and I'll be there Don't feel sorry for me... We had joy, we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the hills that we climbed Were just seasons out of time Remember our good times. Carry fond memories. The "hills" climbed out of season refers to how he/they got caught up into the draft - if he/they had been younger or older, he/they wouldn't be in Vietnam. Goodbye Papa please pray for me I was the black sheep of the family I'm sorry I didn't listen. You tried to teach me right from wrong Too much wine and too much song Wonder how I got along I realize I was a fool to waste the time we had together. I should have been home with you, not out with my friends. Goodbye Papa it's hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air Again, fantasizing the "goodbye" to his father while he dies. Wants him to also remember him fondly. Little children everywhere When you see them, I'll be there Remember the good times when I was a kid and not the foolish things I did when I was "grown". We had joy, we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song Like the seasons have all gone I'm dying so there will be no new memories to make. We had joy, we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song Like the seasons have all gone Goodbye Michelle my little one You gave me love and helped me find the sun And every time that I was down You would always come around And get my feet back on the ground Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die His daughter - he's going to miss out on her growing up. Again, it's in his head - she's not there. When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air With the flowers everywhere I wish that we could both be there I want to be your father but due to the draft and my untimely demise, I no longer can be. |

| Aerosmith – Kings And Queens Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I don't believe it has anything to do with medieval England. I think it's all symbolism for men's and women's roles in society...especially if they were referencing the 1950's. Everyone had a Cleaver family lifestyle and the goal in life was impressing the neighbors with your fictitious "wealth". Envision Levittown. | |
| Adele – Rolling in the Deep Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| If I didn't know the backstory, I'd say the song is about a man proposing just to find out he's already MARRIED. She's about to call his wife... | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Landslide Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| The line is "Can I handle the seasons of my life/"...so much for memory at my age. | |

| I believe the song is talking about a mid life crisis. You have all the answers when you are young (as most foolishly think) and you feel you have all the time in the world to do everything you want. When you hit your 40's and your body has pains and aches you could never imagine, you realize your youth is going and the future is limited. The line "Can I handle the changes of my life?" I take to mean can I handle my own mortality and the fear of growing old. As for "I built my life around you", again, it may reference the youthful notion that we are young forever and wasted some of those years not realizing it was fleeting and eventually would end. | |
| Bob Dylan – Man in the Long Black Coat Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
This is my opinion on what this song means: Crickets are chirpin', the water is high, There's a soft cotton dress on the line hangin' dry, Window wide open, African trees Bent over backwards from a hurricane breeze. Severe hurricane hit and the only sign of human life is a cotton dress "hangin dry" Not a word of goodbye, note even a note, She gone with the man In the long black coat. His lover just disappeared off the face of the earth by going with Death. Somebody seen him hanging around At the old dance hall on the outskirts of town, Signs of the major storm before it hit. He looked into her eyes when she stopped to ask If he wanted to dance, he had a face like a mask. She ignored the warning signs and courted Death in a teasingly manner. Somebody said from the Bible he'd quote Maybe she had committed some sins or was part of an adulterous affair with the man telling the story - the fear of death can bring out the fear of eternal damnation. There was dust on the man In the long black coat. It had been awhile since any death had occurred in the area. Preacher was a talkin' there's a sermon he gave, He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved, The whole "you are born sinners" theory. Without baptism, there is no reprieve from damnation. Maybe the "flood" is that baptism but she was beyond "saving". You cannot depend on it to be your guide When it's you who must keep it satisfied. You can't depend on your feelings to guide you to "righteousness". You have to do more to gain "salvation". I think it references the affair between these two parties. It ain't easy to swallow, it sticks in the throat, She gave her heart to the man In the long black coat. It's hard to think she could have seeked higher ground and survived but instead chose the risk of Death. It was a senseless death. There are no mistakes in life some people say It is true sometimes you can see it that way. Reference to preordained fate vs. free choice. But people don't live or die, people just float. I envision her body laying on the water face down with arms extended. This flood was extensive and killed many if taken literally. Think Hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath. If it's more poetic, then it may refer that people are just trying to survive in the best way possible in an unforgiving, dog eat dog world. Who can bother with morality when you are trying to feed your kids (stealing a loaf of bread). She went with the man In the long black coat. There's smoke on the water, it's been there since June, Tree trunks uprooted, 'neath the high crescent moon The impact is still felt months later. Feel the pulse and vibration and the rumbling force Somebody is out there beating the dead horse. People are still weeping despite that fact it changes nothing. They aren't moving on with their lives. She never said nothing there was nothing she wrote, She just was gone with really no sign she ever existed. She gone with the man In the long black coat. |
