| Am I the only one who hears "I'll always watch out for you from up above." And not "all eyes" lol | |
| I Monster – Heaven Lyrics | 10 years ago |

When I first heard this song, I didn't get anything romantic out of it. I felt sort of eerie and a little bit scared. It's got a chilling vibe to it. Between the rain, the creepy harmonica bit, and the slow melodic vocals, this song is hauntingly beautiful. As for the meaning... I personally think that Heaven could be the name of a girl, rather than a place. "Heaven, do you want me?" "Heaven, when I ride you." "Is Heaven just in my mind?" Sounds like he's stalking, or watching a girl through her window - that's maybe why I get a bit creeped out by the song. "Open the door, turn on the light..." Very creepy. "Lose the disguise." - Maybe she's undressing, taking off her makeup etc. "Show me some more..." Again, creepy. "Tell me it's alright." - As if he knows he's doing something wrong by watching her like this, but he wants her to tell him it's okay. Sounds as though he's infatuated with a girl, but he knows he can never be with her. He almost wishes he would just lose interest in her. "Release me from your spell..." Not a romantic song in the least. Chilling, entrancing, sorta like being in the mind of a rapist. |

This is a really nice song because you are able to take whatever meaning you want from the lyrics, because they're very objective. "I just stand by and let you fight your secret war" - This to me sounds like an addiction, something someone is fighting with internally, so nobody else is able to see the struggles (not even themselves, hence the addiction and secret part.) "And if you're somewhere drunk and passed out on the floor" - Clearly Joey is a drinker. But this lyric can be seen two ways. One, he just /happened/ to get drunk after their fight. We don't know for certain if alcohol is the main vice he's into because it's only mentioned once. Two, he could be an alcoholic and this idea of him being drunk and passed out is something that she's seen too many times. Yes she still wants him to be safe and know she loves him. Joey, if you're hurtin' so am I. Sometimes we love someone so much we blind ourselves to the bad and focus on what we love so much whether it hurts us and them. |

| He Is We – A Mess It Grows Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This is going to be really off topic for what the overall theme of the song is actually about (i.e. A mother neglecting her child and choosing a man over the protection and love for her child etc.) But it's something that I always felt when listening to this song. A while ago I was sexually assaulted (for lack of a better word) by someone that I loved and regarded as a father figure to me. And He is We is one of my favorite artists, I listen to them a lot. While listening to this song in particular I heard the line "Why do I justify what you did wrong to me?" and it really just hit me and brought me back to that night everything happened. I was so easy to forgive him and I actually tried to placate him and make him feel better about what he did TO ME. It was insane. I just didn't want to believe how much it actually affected me. A mess it grows, really. |
