I'm only 20 (born in the wrong generation...) and I can already relate to this song so much. Until recently I've felt very lost in regards to what I want to do with my life ("Guess I lost my way...there were oh so many roads..."). I sometimes forget that I have student loans to repay ("Never worried about paying or even how much I owed..."). Now that I'm really growing up, I see how much things are changing and I have real adult responsibilities now ("I've got so much more to think about...deadlines and commitments...what to leave in, what to leave out..."). But even when life seems to be going against me, I always persevere and go in the direction of my goals and ambitions. I'm the young man running against the wind... |

As someone in my early 20s I can already appreciate the meaning of this song. This song is obviously about someone (Bob, really), looking back on his youth when he was in his physical prime and essentially care-free. Also, the song expresses how fast time really flies and sends a message to enjoy the present because soon it will be just a fond memory. I know I'll appreciate this song even more when I'm in my 40s wishing I was 20 again..this is my favorite Seger song |
