Yes – Parallels Lyrics 8 years ago
This album, "Going for The One", was released 40 years ago this week and still one of my top-ten all-time favorite albums, period. The idea that Wakeman performed on a church organ and transmitted the sound over a telephone line to a recording studio five miles away where the rest of the band was playing their instruments in synch is astounding to me. There is a video of Jon Anderson performing "Awaken" just a few years ago, and his voice does not seem to have changed a bit in the 35 years since he first sang it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_Va3e_52TE&sns=em

Soundgarden – The Day I Tried to Live Lyrics 8 years ago
To me this is about his individualism and morals being stripped away due to his fame. The star began with ideals about creating art for the masses while maintaining his basic ethics, but to do that he has to fit in and play the game with the recording industry, which is ruthlessly capitalist - wallowing in the blood and mud with all these other pigs that he is conforming to - and realizing that his fans (a thousand beggars') are giving up their "change" for the ultimate purpose of enriching these music industry bastards. And when those bastards are done using you? Your music doesn't survive, (one more time around might do it - maybe the next hit record is right around the corner?? - and many don't individually because of drugs and/or the ruin that comes from feeling like a failure - and no one who has used you cares. Truly sad because in this interpretation, it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This just sounds like a guy hooking up with a sometime/old flame for a weekend of partying and sex. When their weekend is over and they're both sober, they realize that their only attraction to each other is physical rather than emotional.

Interesting post, especially the last line/ summary. We hear so much about wealth inequality and the 1%-ers ~ who, of course, have all the right friends in all the right places, etc.
