| I know it's referencing an unsolved/unpunished car bombing from the late 70s. This song (the acoustic version, in particular) removes any doubt of Bono's ability to command a song these days. What a rock voice! | |

Seems like they're saying that we play a losing game these days always chasing a moving target. Always latching onto some new ideal. A lot of question in the song, but mostly along the lines of, "maybe we'd be better off" letting ourselves be "swept off our feet", and just deciding we've found the one goal we want to chase. Even if it means separating ourselves from those nearest us, we can overcome that disparate motive, if we stop chasing every new fad, each new philosophy. So much imagery of being passive in the face of life circumstances, or of being at the mercy of forces beyond our influence. |
