The meaning to me is simple. I've lived it more than once. Someone is just done with you. Done with you to the point where they really don't care if you live or die, or what the outcomes that come afterward mean. "It came to mind that I didn't care". Rob (or maybe all of us) want to feel like someone cares. But theres that moment of isolation, where all of the oxygen comes out of the room and you realize how alone you are. Thats why the line "just 3 miles from the rest stop". If the rest stop was hit before the impulse decision was made he would have had a better shot on the high way. Thats when he realizes how truly alone he is. Couldn't even go 3 miles before this moment. |

This seems to be a bit different then what others are seeing. The song starts out with: Come and go now as you please Your actions write the melodies To the songs that we sing And you just sing Then goes into And I finally found that life goes on without you And my world still turns when you're not around The song ends with "And you just sing along out.. loud" Both people have been trying to find reasons to make it work. They've hurt each others, and both have come back. They realize they aren't each others crutch anymore. They are saying this to themselves at this moment of clarity |

Ya nailed it. It's about struggling to tell the person before you have to leave again how much it all means. Vocalizing the importance would make the pain harder. |
