Josh Turner – South Carolina Low Country Lyrics 11 years ago
Careful now. That's like saying it's ok for Josh to own and mistreat slaves just because he can sing well. Mr. Turner has an obligation as a vocal and visible Christian to stand up for true Christian values. He has made his declaration in many of his songs. He should live in the Spirit of Christ and defend, as well as he can, the down trodden.

Check your facts. I don't think they will support any supposition that Wade Hampton was anti-slavery or even neutral on the subject. The only possible mark in his favor was his record of voting against secession.

If we can trust Wikipedia Hampton fought, not only in the war but also after the war, through a variety of political means to further the enslavement and subsequently the suppression of and violence against blacks. I believe Josh Turner's choice to record this song is a poor choice. If he wrote it I beg him in the name of our Lord to rethink and rescind it. The "way of life" Hampton fought for was provided for by the forced labor of a subjugated race. This subjugation was cruel and evil. There is nothing remotely Christian about that kind of cruelty. A believer should not ever support or endorse that kind of activity, especially a believer so visible and influential as Mr. Turner. Please, Josh, say something.
