I Ielieve this song is about finding spiritual salvation through passionate sex/love making with someone who makes you feel whole. (If the Heavens ever did speak She is the last true mouthpiece... The only heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you) While many people on here seem to agree that the song is about repressed homosexuality, I believe it's more about repressed sexuality in general. In religion premarital sex is a sin but it is something that is natural and desired by pretty much everybody starting at a young age (we were born sick, and we love it) The singer points out the hypocrisy that many in the religious world have dealt with regarding sex and marriage and the guilt associated with lust. (That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful) He has come to realize that his religion is a lie and can therefore offer no salvation or absolution (my church offers no absolutes) He has finally decided to choose his own life's path.
