I think he is comparing a woman's love to the effect morphine has on the body and mind. Something you become addicted and used to...something you need and yearn for. |

@[allnatural:427] I saw that YouTube comment as well and thought it was a great interpretation of this song.
I'm pretty sure at some point in their lives, everyone has been used, taken advantage of, or fell victim to another's malicious intent. I agree, the key to moving on and restoring happiness is to accept the past and then rid yourself of the offender.
Great AvA song and one of the best on this album. I love the lyrics. |

Perhaps this song is about a guy who has some flings with a girl who is out of his league (I got caught like a little kid stealing..), then gets hurt when she moves on and he cannot. (I reached for a shooting star, it burned a hole through my hand..). |

Perhaps this song is about trying and failing...and realizing you tried your best and forcing regrets from your mind.
"We are all that we are..." meaning I am what I am, and it is what it is. I will not apologize or look back in regret, even though the end result was not what I had hoped it would be. |

This is a very powerful song. 'Most of the time' by Dylan comes to mind when I hear it. To me, it is about a guy who is typically very strong and confident, but every now and then he falls for a girl who makes him very vulnerable: (I do this from time to time...). It also reminds me of when you have your phone sitting near you and it goes off late at night, making you jump in apprehension that it is the person you are dying to hear from: (Then the phone rang like a gunshot...). |

I believe this song is about someone who constantly finds himself getting attached to others too easily and being hurt as a result of it. (And it's all too familiar and it happens all the time...) He knows he should stop but the temptation, enjoyment, and attraction in the beginning are just too tempting. He tells himself he won't get attached, but the temptation to talk and spend time with the girl is too intense and he gets close. Before he knows it, she moves on or changes her mind and he is left in pain. Before long, the cycle starts over again when he meets someone new... |

To me, it seems this song is about being in love with someone who doesn't quite know what they want. The indecisive person has the other trapped in a vicious loop, and they are torn about which direction to go from there. They are constantly being hurt by the actions of the other, yet there are enough positive moments to keep them hoping will make up their mind sooner rather than later. Should they wait or move on? |
