Its about that final cataclysmic moment of disillusionment. He's realizing that without his consent all of his hopes have been shattered and now the lights have been shut off, he no longer sees the light at the end of the tunnel, he is swallowed by the darkness and no matter how much time passes there isn't one day he doesn't think about what could have been. He keeps playing it over in his mind to see if there is anything he could have changed to produce a different outcome, but instead he ends up battling his own interior monologue.
