This song is about the struggle between being famous and wanting to be normal. He knows the love of his fans and his fame will never replace the love he had with her... It's kind of an anti love song in a weird way. The lines "hide and seek" speak about being avoided by someone. That crazy insane time of letting go of someone where you call and try to catch a glimpse of them but they dodge you. They block you. They change their number. Etc. He's begging the universe to give him love. In some form or another. Either that or "burn out" so he can go back to being normal again where no one knows his name. I'm surprised no one caught the George Orwell reference at the beginning. "Movin to 92. Still in a room without a view..." Winston (in the book 1984) was to "meet in the place where there is no darkness..." The brainwashing room at the end basically. Where 2 2 is 5. And you either accept it and conform to big brothers will or fight it somehow... Zach makes a lot of references to his book in his lyrics overall. |
