This song was spawned by her relationship with Barrie. Lana herself said this in an interview with FASHION magazine last summer. Here's the quote: On how her relationship with rocker Barrie-James O’Neill fueled Ultraviolence‘s lyrics: “I’m a dark character and he very is an even darker character than I am. Trying to get some consistency and some normality within the dynamic of that relationship has been impossible. Songs like “Shades of Cool” came out all that.” |

| Lana Del Rey – Cola (Pussy) Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Literal-ish. Lana herself said that she had an ex-boyfriend who was Scottish & he was talking about American girls (all american can also be heard in the line "like cherry pie") and said that he thought of their pussies tasting like Pepsi. Lana thought it was the funniest thing ever and it went in the song. Her father thought it was hilarious. Her mother about had a heart attack. Ha. |

| Lana Del Rey – Brooklyn Baby Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I actually believe this song is satire. Take every Brooklyn hipster or the cast of say, Girls, and the whole thing is essentially a parody of them/the hipster culture. aka Hipsters will tell people all about how unique or ironic they are by listening to indie music or oldies they've re-discovered and claimed as 'cool'. The line, 'My boyfriend's pretty cool... But he's not as cool as me', is quentissential hipster talk. Same with 'if you dont like it then forget it.' Clearly youre not worth the explanation & said hipster is too cool for you. I tend to think that Lana is aware she fits with the 'hipster' culture, but I don't think she's stupid. For that reason, i don't see the lyrics as an intent to be literal. At all. |
