I found out a little known fact today whilst trying to kiss a tiger. If you look directly into it's eyes, your moustache (if you're lucky enough to have one) tickles it's nose. This made me consider the song eye of the tiger, by survivor and what the lyrics mean to me... It's essentially a story about a man who wanted a moustache but was ridiculed and so he shaved it off, but he can't resist the genius of facial hair. "Risin' up, back on the street, Did my time, took my chances" (he's tried not having a tash) "Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet Just a man and his will to survive" (got the tash again, knows it'll get tough) At this point in the song he seems to be imagining he's getting a pep talk from John Oates or someone; "So many times, it happens too fast, You trade your passion for glory" (most people who go to interviews with a tash, don't get the job unless they're pilots or private investigators in the 70's. Passion can be read as "moustache", glory as "a job") "Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past, You must fight just to keep them alive" (self explanatory, keep the tash) "It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight, Risin' up to the challenge of our rival" (the "rival" is anyone who mocks moustaches) "And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night and he's watchin' us all with the eye of the tiger" (it's a bit confusing here, but tigers.... yeah!!) "Face to face, out in the heat, Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry" (face to face him and the tiger, I think the tiger means anyone who doesn't like moustaches?) "They stack the odds, till we take to the street For the kill, with the skill to survive" (this is the bit where the tash haters have to face their prejudice as moustached people "take to the street") "Risin' up, straight to the top Had the guts, got the glory" (he's convinced other people that moustaches are ok) "Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop, Just a man and his will to survive" (now he want's everyone to have a tash. Get in!!) "The eye of the tiger, The eye of the tiger, The eye of the tiger" What a powerful image, staring into a tigers eye and saying moustaches are ok! whilst tickling its nose with your upper lip. brilliant! |
