| Definitely LSD influenced. But I think that is an over-exaggerated/misunderstood point. I've done a good amount of acid and tripping on it really makes the roots of one's own thoughts as well as the roots of others' thoughts incredibly clear. Acid is more a sobering drug than intoxicating. It delivers these revelations, revealing the possibility for a more resonant and flowing way of life, but does not permanently instill them. The song gives me the feel that Brian Wilson ate acid, saw the fallacy of the ego in others (a topic which MANY other artist wrote about as well, see The Beatles "Nowhere Man" or "Within You Without You", Velvet Underground "Beginning to See the Light", MGMT "Siberian Breaks") which I personally observe in others when they lie to themselves, or just aren't true to themselves, like fake laughing, forced social interaction, masking insecurities with jokes or exaggeration, and generally with the phenomenon of trying too hard to be themselves. Wilson then also realizes that the revelations of the drug recede with the high, leaving him with only the knowledge that there IS an answer to his ego, a freedom from artificiality, a path of least resistance, the Tao, Buddha mind, God, etc etc that can only be reaped in one's self, as it is too deeply ingrained in some to be done from the outside in. | |

| reminds me of Holden Caufield and "I Know There's an Answer" by the Beach Boys. "I know so many people who think they can do it alone, isolate themselves and stay in their comfort zone". It's about people who deny love out of fear of loss of control over their world. | |

"Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed, when the ocean met the sky." boooooooom!!!! what a line. I get the feeling this song is mocking the kind of person who doesn't questions their perceptions or thoughts, walks blindfolded through life, sees the points (the ocean, the sky) but not how they interact. kinda evokes a Taoism feel. |
