Greg Pimmermen – SS Poop Lyrics 9 years ago
SS Poop, to me, is clearly a discourse between the spirited part of the soul and the reasoning part. It recalls a great voyage that we all have taken in our dreams. How we were proud to ride the SS Poop, yet afraid, but still awestruck.

Dawes – Moon In The Water Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is pretty enigmatic, but at the same time the message, or one of the messages of the song is perfectly clear. That message would be that of perseverance, passion, or maybe a few other things.
"That love is for the fighter born to lose
but never quit
Swinging for the moon in the water"
Obviously both examples illustrated in the song show that either by means of being distracted or by true intention, each person referenced is so awestruck by the reflection of the moon in the water that they for a minute or second failed to realize that they are heading the completely wrong direction for something that cannot be obtained.
Among the more deep meanings hidden in the song, or the meanings in which one may find more than one, these lyrics stand out the most, and seem to be telling a slightly different message:
"When I said, "This must be what love is
like I saw it in a dream"
You looked into my eyes and said, "You
don't know what you mean"
"When she says, "If I've had love in my
life then surely this is it"
I said, "Anyone who talks like that doesn't
understand one bit"
This dialogue between the two figures is probably such that can be interpreted in many different ways. Perhaps it is these lyrics that are meant to stir memories of past experiences in the listener; experiences that presumably are different but have relation to the moon in the water.

Dawes – Bear Witness Lyrics 11 years ago
I think this song is about a wedding, whose wedding can't be said for certain, but it looks like based on lyrics such as these: "Some nights get worse than others, and I start thinking about your mother And she's here with me as far as I can tell"
"Is my granddaughter Ruthie still working at the movies?" It appears to be a father of a daughter who is also a grandfather.
It seems to be about the conformity of the notion of marriage, and how it is not really taken seriously anymore.
"You can put them on the counter there with all the other flowers"
Bringing the flowers that all the other guests have brought that don't have nearly as much meaning as they are intended to or should have. However, it is also possible that this song is coming from the perspective of someone else and possibly at a funeral, it could go either way, my reasoning for this is based on this line
"I'm glad you made the visit, and if you think you have a minute
You should sit and talk until it's time to leave"
One doesn't just stop by a wedding, and so it is possible that this is a daughter of said father stopping by and the grandfather without his wife is asking now about all the things that he has been absent to and believes are the true standards of how love should be defined.
If it was a wedding, he'd be saying to his daughter, that's the love that I came to bear witness to and I hope that is the love that you intend to commemorate at your wedding. If it is a funeral it could be the daughter or the father saying that at the funeral all the examples given are the love that he/she came to bear witness to, in memoriam of the deceased.

Truly a great song. The Band Dawes are lyrical geniuses.
