Post Malone – I Like You (A Happier Song) Lyrics 3 years ago
Austin Post Malone does own and operate a heart, but “anything like love” likely gets suppressed due to his fame, wealth and youth. Doja Cat is young, rich and famous and is careful, like Posty, with obsessive fans. But they met and found some common ground and each felt a little thumping in the chest, like humans do. It’s a lite, lovely song- not too deep, but each superstar open up to some real emotions, if fleeting. Is it love? Definitely. But lite, like this tune.

The B-52's – Give Me Back My Man Lyrics 4 years ago
Cyndi is so frail, has nothing of power on her. "I'll give you fish, I'll give you candy, I'll give you everything I have in my hand" like she may have a giant bank account somewhere, all kinds of valuable stuff to trade, but on a primal level, she has none of that at her disposal- she's kind of desperate and will give anything she has at hand. Totally primal and gut wrenching. Like she must succeed and quickly or she may never see her man again. 5 star song.

The Doobie Brothers – What A Fool Believes Lyrics 4 years ago
@[Arthos:36269] yep, yep, yep. You got it exactly right. My bro keeps searching FB, digging up people from our adolescence. Hey- I was there and I remember just struggling to get by- we had some fun, but not like I want or need to dredge that past up- it’s meaningless for me. Same with the lady in this great song- I can imagine her attitude as “yeah I was there.. I’m sure glad I graduated from that era!”

The Doobie Brothers – What A Fool Believes Lyrics 4 years ago
Uhhh.. did you hear the one about the woman who won the lottery and immediately filed for divorce? Not to short the husband! He got his half! She did it because she could afford it (and she secretly despised her guy). And Pearl Jam has a chorus: ‘she can’t find a better man’. What a fool believes is about a girl who had little or no fondness for the guy, but maybe drank too much one party and had an unplanned fling with him. For whatever reason- she has no regard for the guy- she could not care any less. Sad story.

Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics 5 years ago
Yeah... pearly gates. Videotape of your life. You're being judged. It would be hell to have to watch every awkward mistake you made in your life.

Tool – Sober Lyrics 5 years ago
Why does Maynard drink? Desire to be sober is a clear thought and goal laid out in Tool’s amazing track, Sober.

Why does Maynard drink? I ask again..

Based on clues he’s left everywhere, Maynard is not happy (in a spiritual, even cosmic sense) about the singular grievous tragedy befell his beloved mother.

Didn’t Maynard write a song called 10,000 days which describes the extraordinary length of mom’s suffering?

In Aenima (song) Maynard obsessively claims that “Mom” will be coming along shortly to put things right in effed up L.A.

So, I believe in a similar fashion the Charles Darwin (who grew angry and impatient with God for taking his favorite daughter from him) Maynard asks in sober:

Jesus won’t you fucking whistle, something but what’s past and done?

and..

Mother Mary won’t you whisper, something but what’s last and done?

Maynard knows the risk of say “Jesus won’t you *fucking whistle*” but he’s fed up with a deity that allows such cruel suffering...

Which is why Maynard drinks.

Nirvana – Plateau Lyrics 6 years ago
Written by Native Americans, I believe there are at least 2 meanings, probably more. Reference to Mexico or Greenland refer to conquering wild places. The taking and taming of wild America ultimately turned the continent into a commercialized, safe, boring place. Same could apply to the struggles of life- all culminates in “heaven”, which turns out to be a safe, mopped, boring place with talk show hosts to guarantee that every wild or dangerous aspect has been mopped up and sanitized; either outcome leads to the same conclusion.. It’s all about the journey- the destination turns out to be a major letdown.

Alice in Chains – Nutshell Lyrics 6 years ago
Wow..

Nutshell almost couldn’t be any sadder.

I have a son who is 29 and (seems to be) always depressed, and I have no power to reach him.

...and Layne Staley dying just as predicted in this song puts a very sharp point on this tune.

I can hear the poor boy crying, I mean literally crying in this song. Haunting!

Layne Staley pushed and pushed his poor (religious, devout) family until they put him on the streets of Seattle.

I can just envision his lost soul shivering under a bridge somewhere, like for all eternity.

Wow. This is a crusher!!

RIP Layne.. I hope you've found your peace.

Ed Sheeran – Perfect Lyrics 7 years ago
Ed Sheeran gets it all wrong;
So they were in love earlier, then they give it another shot; but the question hangs- if she is perfect, and she chooses him, then he *does* “deserve this”.
Telling her that she’s perfect and that he doesn’t deserve her puts a mortal woman above and beyond his reach.
I predict another separation. She is perfect *for him*.
Not happy.. hey Ed- stop whining and enjoy her!!

The Smashing Pumpkins – Real Love Lyrics 10 years ago
Billy Corgan, coming in for a landing on a jet, after midnight on New Year's, in 1999 / 2000: "Fall into the century on a supersonic cross...."

Corgan does this two or three times in this song- he punches us in the metaphorical tummy.

How about:
Born of the fallen chain / Into a world sustained with sorrow.
Fallen chain- a slave who was freed (by love)?

Again:
Buried in the backyard shadow / The rusty coffee tin / That held her mother's first kiss in a / Nameless dream
Agggh- we can feel that... a chasm of mysterious gothic poetry

And:
We never listen / Real love will listen And tell of a fortune / Real love is riches
Scratch through the changes / Real love is nameless / So tired and hopeless
Real love is painless / Nobody mentions.

The lack of clear meaning is actually the point- it's Real Love- the mysteries of which exist just beyond that which we can access.

Amazing song! But... demon scorn and laws of gravity?
Really Mr. Corgan- shoulda quit while you were ahead!

The Cranberries – Daffodil Lament Lyrics 10 years ago
First- giving thanks- what an amazing song- way more is conveyed by the sound than the words.
Second- I believed for 20 years that Dolores O'Riorden was saying:
"I have decided to LIVE here forever".
Third- having learned that she is deciding to LEAVE him or her forever made sense.
But... I believed that lovely Dolores was taking a stand for Ireland, which I thought was so great- even thematic for my life / but no.
Whatever the true meaning, I fell in love with this song long before reading the lyrics.

Pink Floyd – Time Lyrics 10 years ago
Listen to this... the sentiment is conveyed 90% through the music and timely backing vocals. Like time passing, the simple lyrics are not the point- time seems to be passing by and we are only aware of it viscerally. Life happens when we weren't paying attention. Then... something profound, and not at the actual end of the song- "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way- time is gone, the song is over; thought I'd something more to say." A bookmark in time- all Englishmen (and the whole world is partly English) get it. Vaulted from the workaday narrative, this shining verse- We all get this.
