Or from gelatin to specimen to emptiness could mean that she goes from being the unfertilized egg ( gelatin) to being an embryo ( specimen) then to being "aborted" (emptiness) which was supposed to happen but it didn't so that's how she is describing the original plan that either failed or got complicated. Maybe? |

| All the lines up to " I will give you sanctuary" are about her being born to an abusive father and she is " blurry in his vision" because he is an alcoholic and drinks to cope with the fact that she is alive and she is basically talking about being abused all the time by him. Then she talks about maybe some "old wounds" being re-opened and emotions being played with which defines the line " cut me open with precision and we'll finger the incision." The line tell me what have I done- quid pro quo (which is another term for trade or exchange) to watch you lose control is her asking why it's her fault that he ( her dad) is always going crazy when she did nothing to provoke it.
