So, I gave it a try with the spin you suggested and it's not a bad fit. That being said, try listening to it as though it were a televangilist or something of that nature. I still get the same message of we're all looking for something or the next big thing. What we have never remains enough as they seek out that next surge trying to keep that 15 minutes of fame |

| Cake – Cool Blue Reason Lyrics | 11 years ago |

One of the things I love about CAKE is their ability to leave things a bit cryptic and open to your absorbtion. That being said my theory of this song is far less synister than much of what I'm reading. I take this to be the shell of a man who feels traped in a consuming job. His colleagues are trapped in the same helpless feeling situation. The enemies in reign would likely be the oppressive management he must answer to. The dead in Texas, and Kansas could be referring to either layoffs or firings. This sounds like the thoughts of a corperately imprisoned man walking into a fresh work day filled with dread. Watching the clock from the start telling himself "Only 8 more hours to go" as he tries to keep his composure, cool and calculated trudging through his day. |
