This song is so underrated-the lyrics are so good and so genuine (I guess we fell apart in the usual way and the stories got dust on every page) but overall this song is such a good breakup song because it describes being at peace with something ending. Yes it ended, and yes sometimes you miss them, but recognizing that it was a good relationship, and cherishing it for that is so important and a very mature thing to do. I would also like to point out the development from "tonight I'm gonna dance like you were in this room but I don't wanna dance if I'm not dancing with you" to "I'm dancing on my own, I make the moves up as I go" in Shake it Off

This song is so beautiful and so raw. One thing I associate it with is someone leaving for college and leaving behind someone who loves them. I think the biggest line that supports this is "how strange that I don't know you at all" and "if I had known what I know now I never would've played so nonchalant" just because when you're in high school you think you know everything but then when you actually go out and live life on your own, you realize you never knew someone the way you thought you did.

One vibe that I get with this song is that she was always giving more in the relationship than he was-she was doing all the work and that's why all the guy had to do was stay, which he couldn't. So then when he comes back to her wanting another chance, she can't accept it because she's done pulling more than her weight in that relationship.

I think that this song is originally perceived as very happy and lovey dovey but when you think about it, it's almost ironic. This guy is the same guy that left her all alone and never told her why, but he's singing about how he messed up. While the idea is cute and romantic, it's a lot darker because this guy did hurt her, and the only thing she has are his words that he'll love her, and guys will say anything. Just a thought lol

The entire album tells a story, starting with Welcome to New York and then ending with this song. The entire time she's been going back and forth with one guy, but then one day she lets him go. The "secret messages" or whatever for this one is SHE LOST HIM BUT FOUND HERSELF AND SOMEHOW THAT WAS EVERYTHING and I think that just adds to the power of the song. It's raw emotion and it's beautiful. It closes the album perfectly, and on a bittersweet note. Utterly flawless

This song is about a girl in an unhealthy relationship with a player. We've all been there. "I heard that you been out and about with some other girl/he said what you've heard is true/but I can't stop thinking about you" This guy is dragging her along for what feels like is a physical relationship with a lack of emotional attraction. She loves him, he wants to sleep with her. Hence why he only comes to pick her up at midnight with no headlights. "Good girl faith and a tight little skirt" enhances this perfectly, because she wants to believe he truly wants her and only her but she gives in to what he wants rather than what she wants. In typical manner, she can't lose this bad boy.

This song is so beautiful. It reminds me of a friendship I had with someone. At first, it was the greatest thing, and everything was perfect, until things started to go downhill. All I wanted was for it to "last the year, pour a little salt we were never here" I just wanted to preserve it, and not let any of the good become bad. As it kept getting worse, I fell into a state of depression. I was taking too many pills trying to kill the pain, similar to the "sink of blood and crushed veneer" "I tell my love to wreck it all, cut out all the ropes and let me fall" I put myself out on so many limbs, trying to get people to save the self that I broke in a desperate attempt to save what I was losing, but no one caught me when I jumped. "I told you to be patient and I told you to be fine, and I told you to be balanced and I told you to be kind" represents the way I was talking to myself at the beginning, trying to avoid this fall out. "In the morning I'll be with you but it will be a different kind" reminds me of how we would always meet in the mornings, and finally it was so different. "I'll be holding all the tickets and you'll be owning all the fines" reminds me of how they were pointing out the things I'd done wrong, handing me tickets, while I paid the price. "suckle on the hope in lite brassier" well I did drink too much while I was friends with them, and it was hard for me. "now if all your love is wasted then who the hell was I?" Basically they said they were done with me, and that was it. All their love for me was gone, even though for a time I was their best friend. Such a tragic and heartbreaking song

I found this song through Gossip Girl, and does it remind anyone else of when Chuck sleeps with Jenny and Blair finds out? "when the roof caved in and the truth came out I just didn't know what to do...we'll be living so large I'll do anything for you" she finds out when Dan comes and punches him, and he loses her because of that mistake. "I know what I did wasn't clever but we were meant to last forever" it just makes sense to me haha

Honestly this song describes my life about this time last year. I was best friends with a boy over the summer, and everything was perfect until fall rolled around. Drama kept starting, and we buried our friendship in the time that it was. We eventually got farther apart as "the ice kept getting thinner with every word we'd speak" and "the days turned to weeks" and then as winter came, it was like a surprise and I finally hurt him more than I'd ever hurt anyone else. And "we were taken by surprise as the floes under our feet bled into the sea and nothing was left for you and me" there was nothing left and now we don't speak. We aren't the same as we once were, and there's nothing that we are now. It took one falling out for us to both realize our friendship was over, and it had ended a long time ago. This song is absolutely heartbreaking to me.
