I think the song is more about two old friends (perhaps former sweethearts) who went their separate ways. This is a time before the age of the Internet, communication is more difficult and the two eventually lose contact. A decade later, one of them phones in on a radio station and requests a song they both used to like, in the hopes that their friend will be listening in at the same time. Fortunately, the friend (the singer) begins to weep as a wave of nostalgia settles in their heart. They haven't forgotten their old friend and they long to be with them. The opportunity to be reunited is just a phone call away. |
