As Juliekspon the origin of this way of saying is Coleridge-The rime of the Ancient Mariner....Albatrosses were considered a emblem of hope, and in some cases the soul of dead sailors....in the Rime a sailor kills an albatross, and brings bad luck to the ship. So he is forced to carry the dead albatross around his neck... So this became the symbol of carrying a burden for something bad you may have done....in this song, the burden is just a stressful life, and they say that you should let the albatross-weight go, to be happier. |

I agree with MusicGirl624 and I've always thought that the girl was dead...I mean, the song would lose all its nostalgic feeling if she was still alive somewhere. At the beginning I also thought that the "she" was their daughter....like he was looking at the daughter and she reminded him of her dead mother, and he was telling her "she could be you", she looks like you. But then he wouldn't refer to a picture, but to a human being. Maybe that's because I first heard the song in Kyle XY, and there actually was a reference to mother and daughter there. |
