This song comes across to me as one of the only songs by The Smiths that Morrissey sings in a completely sincere way, without a hint of sarcasm. I think it is beautiful and one of their most moving songs. I prefer the Hatful of Hollow version. |

Having read through most of these comments I'm surprised I may be the only one who interprets the lyrics to this song as actually a somewhat veiled insult towards the Queen of England. Looking at pictures it seems most of the English queens have been above average in size ladies. Morrissey hates royalty, this song is off the album The Queen is Dead I think its a subtle knock on the Queen and queens past all the way back to Cleopatra. He is subtly calling the queen a fat cow. |
