to me, this always sounded like finding amusement at the absurdity of life - thus the title 'how bizarre.' it painted a visual of the events. 3 friends out driving around aimlessly. when they get stopped, instead of getting a ticket - the officer is admiring their car. the freshly pasted poster is for a circus, which they decide to head towards. highlighting absurdity again, the circus animals have gone missing. media, police, etc show up and make a huge deal out of the situation. the friends just wanted to go to the circus, but instead they were in the middle of a 'media circus,' so they decide to leave. the line 'every time i look around, it's in my face' is just a reiteration of how absurd & strange life can be. |

| To me, this song is about women who don't follow the rules, norms, and expected roles that society has for them. They challenge the meanings and interpretations that society and culture has defined - they are rebels who refuse to color inside the lines (whether the rules are laws or unwritten expectations) when it doesn't feel right to them. the song writer respects them for that. | |
