to me this song is talking about the regret of breaking up with someone when you still love them. the video that accompanies this song is a bit obscure but near the end you can see where this fits in. Tore a line in the sun - the "sun" could represent who the persona's love interest was, talking about how she broke up with them. the other lines in this verse mainly talk about what she was thinking at the time. Taking back an empty threat - to me this seems like the "empty threat" was her breakup because she didn't actually want to break up but she did anyway, therefore making it an "empty threat" more than you could ever know - telling us that she still loves the person she broke up with and wishes that she could stop herself from saying it. Take it back with no regrets - saying about how she would gladly try to take it back and have no regrets about re-starting their relationship. i was better off when i was on your side and i was holding on - this talks about how she felt as though her life was better when she was with her love interest and is slowly accepting that they are with another person. the second verse goes on to talk about how her love interest is with another person and yet she is still hoping that they can forgive her and get back together with her "hold my ground long enough, till i see the turning tides are coming from you." the bridge mainly uses a lot of metaphors around water or the ocean, which to me seems as though she feels as though she's being pushed back or as though she's drowning because she knows and realizes that she can't get her old love back because of her mistake. "but i know that this is different" could be telling that she's learning to accept that her love interest has left her completely. then the final chorus which again tell us that she wishes she could go back and change what she did but it's far too late and she just has to accept it. |

i think this song is about someone who, since her childhood, has always wanted to be immortal but knows that no one can. she's forever going after any means of staying alive longer because she doesn't want to have to die alone and because she wants to be remembered by someone, but then she realizes that she doesn't need everlasting life to be remembered by someone, she just needs the memory of them. this is a beautiful song and i can't wait for the Froot album to come out, because it's sounding great. |

| i think this song is about someone who's finally ready to confess to their lover (hence the reference to being ready or ripe) and how she's trying to tell her lover that this is a one time chance because if she finds out that he doesn't love her back, one day she'll simply forget about him ( leave it too long i'll go rot.) absolutely brilliant song. can't wait for the new Froot album to come out! | |

| i think you're right, i agree with the whole archetypes thing but i also think that the character of "Electra Heart is Marina's alter ego, i think that each song in her playlist "electra heart: the archetypes" (youtube it) goes backwards in the order they play and that each stage of her life is dying as they die the archetypes that are connected to them also die a little, until there's nothing left, i also think that there's more than one song connected to each archetype. | |

| i think this song is about a child who's father is in prison and she has broken him out of prison, but in doing so feels quite guilty because she knows that she's broken the law, when caught by police she is arrested even though she's only a child, hence the line "i was just a kid who you could not forgive because it's harder, i was just a kid and all i really wanted was my father." i believe the part with the dog is a metaphor to that in the attempt to get her father out of prison, she had to do even more crime, indicating that she obviously must have committed a crime to someone either rich, or someone very unique, this is why she refers to it as a rare dog, because with rare dogs people are very serious and want to conserve them, i believe that whatever crime she did must have injured the person in some way because it says that "she left it lame" but yeah that's how i see it, and coming from a child's perspective when you think about it it's not hard to imagine. | |

POSSIBLE LYRIC CORRECTION: i don't know if it's just me or what, but when it says "acting naughtier than we really are" i hear "acting mightier than we really are" as in that, because sex is being used to objectify women and not men it's saying that most women try and shrug this off and forget that that's what we're seen as, while if we do stand up and say it we're instantly put down as being rude and selfish. am i the only one who hears "mightier"? because i think it makes perfect sense this way too. |

| my interpretation of this song, is about depression and how she's coping with it. it says that she's 'losing sleep' i assume this is from her depression and how's she's scared of the effects it brings. sort of like how if you're afraid to sleep you'll stay awake? I think the "road to road, bed to bed" part is her going to all of her friends, family, old lovers even to help fight it. and the "my own space among the clouds" and the "i feel i'm heading down." is that its getting worse and she can't control it anymore, or a much darker version is that she's given up hope and comited suicide. i know that's really dark and i actually prefer that she just can't control it, but it is an option. i think the "that's alright part." is because she's actually finding it easier the more that pain worsens kinda like how when you hurt yourself and you put cream on it or take medicine. it stings/ tates yuck, for a while but it does make you better. | |
