I think there's also some commentary about how our current culture and society is based on the greed model:. "I've got my fingers in pies, A golden watch in my side Will measure my free time. That's a pretty good description of The Man in this song that he's trying to get out from under. We're such a material society, that the 'pull' of riches makes us forget what we do to ourselves, to others and to our cultures with our rampant Affluenza Addiction. Plus, it just CRANKS!
