Nine Inch Nails – Right Where It Belongs Lyrics 7 years ago
@[BLEEDTHROUGH:27377] you got the first part wrong.

You can't find the woods while your hiding in the trees.

It's an old saying that means you can't see the whole picture because of how involved you are. How submerged you have become. Once you take that in to account, it becomes very apparent that it fits the very theme of this song.

Nine Inch Nails – Right Where It Belongs Lyrics 7 years ago
This song is explicitly about detachment and icolation. Between a broad aching heart and this, it seems to be a common theme in his music. Even his instrumental work comes with feelings that will never touch lips or be felt by anyone else, hense its popularity.

As a recluse who suffers from Bipolar Type 2, Trent's work has always struck a deep resonating chord with me.

This songs main themes seem to be viewing the world from this detached perspective, putting on a mask for everyone else, keeping that mask on right where it belongs and the simmering rage and contempt from living life this way simply to appease everyone else and to survive.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Galapogos Lyrics 11 years ago
The beauty of Billy's words are the wonderful and Bohemian way that they are subjective to each and every person who reads/listens to them.
They are meant to be the vehicle of passion, you take it where you need it to go. They carry a heavy weight of emotion, and like a true work of art, you can never look at each one of his works the same way twice.

To me, this is one of the two songs I wish to be played at my funeral, the other, To Forgive, which also descends from this album.
The majority of the song feels like the final plea and ultimate acceptance of the transformation from alive and depressed to death and emotional freedom; the truest sleep of them all.

The song more so sounds like a three way conversation, internal struggle between Billy's closest love/friend and himself. Finding the coverage to let go. As if a friend found him on his death bed, moments after the fatal deed. Pleading to his love, and to his soul, for the shameful act could tarnish his memory. Also as if the acceptance from the one closest to his heart makes the transcendence so much easier.

The last part of the song. The crèchedo and emotional climax, the swiftness, it all feels like a transcendence. The final moment. The last goodbye.

This will be one of the two last songs I will ever hear.
