I heard this was about Dan's wife leaving him and this is him trying to explain it all to their daughter. The wife left and it was really hard on him and the girl. The girl is having nightmares about it and he is resentful toward the wife because of how hard it has been on them. He can't explain why they're not a family anymore. |

| The Black Keys – Gold on the Ceiling Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This song is about money fame and greed. GOLD is literally in the title. "Down in the waves She screams again Roar at the door My mind can't take much more" This is about all of the girls coming after his money and fame. Wanting a piece of him, but he has a hard time resisting the relentless temptation to give in. "They wanna' get my Gold on the ceiling" They're going after him just for his money "I ain't blind It's just a matter of time Before you steal it It's all right Ain't no guarding my high/house" This means that he sees through these people and accepts the fact that he cannot prevent it from happening. It's just a matter of time before he gives in to the girls. "Clouds covered love's Barbed wire snare Strung up strung out I just can't go without" The clouds covered loves and the barbed wire snare are about the deceptiveness and the traps laid by women and how he cannot find a true woman who just wants him for himself and not his money. He knows it's a trap but he can't just go without women forever. |
