I agree with the other comments about Andy and Brandon attending the same school. The song is a sarcastic story of a teen who's constantly tortured (Brandon) by a jock at school (Andy). On the field I remember you were incredible. (Andy was a great football player) Hey shut up! Hey shut up! Yeah! On the field I remember you were incredible. Hey shut up! Hey shut up! Yeah. On the mats with the boys you’d think you’re alone with the pain that you drain from love. (According to Brandon, Andy’s good at Wrestling, and believes that Andy just uses his girlfriends, who fall for him, but instead, he just ruins their hopes of loving him, and dumps them sooner rather than later). In a car with a girl, promise me she’s not your world (Brandon sees the girl he likes in a car with Andy) Cuz Andy, you’re a star! (Brandon’s being sarcastic…saying he’s a star, when instead he hates him.) Leave your number on the locker and I’ll give you a call…(This is Andy speaking...Brandon is angry about how Andy can just tell a girl to leave her number on his locker) Hey shut up! Hey shut up! Yeah! Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall (Brandon’s angry about how Andy was rewarded by his school, when he treated Brandon terribly). Hey shut up! Hey shut up! Yeah! On the streets, such a sweet face jumping town… (Sarcasm…Andy’s “sweet face” façade, while he treats Brandon terribly.) In the staff room, the verdict is in. In high school, Andy was a really important person. Now, everyone has forgotten about Andy. Brandon's in a way saying that Andy is worthless.
