@[nowhereman93:49874] The word “Shadowplay” existed for centuries before “The Twilight Zone” appeared: the concept predated it by millennia. The song & TV show may share a title, but otherwise I can’t see any other similarities. |

The lyrics mention Sir Francis Dashwood - an 18th C rake and founder of the Hellfire Club. Dashwood was also the founder of the Society of Dilettante, a dining society devoted for men who wanted to discuss & relive their European experiences. The song is essentially a spoof of a drunk, wealthy aristocrat mumbling about art. Perhaps it’s meant to be the sort of conversation that happened at Dilettante Club meetings. (These were held in West Wycombe Park not Shipton manor.) |

@[rabbithowl:43703] Lots of poets and song-writers have used the cut-up method, including T.S. Eliot and William Burroughs. The use of this method doesn’t mean that the results are “random” or without meaning. The crucial final stage of the process is not just ensuring “basic grammar and flow,” but also meaning. “Teenage Wildlife” obviously has a lot of meaning, as others have discussed. |
