This is my favourite song from the Arctic monkeys, for sure! I think it can be about not only Andy, but the whole band. And by "who wants to sleep in the city the never wakes up?", I guess Alex was being sarcastic, because no one wants that, it's not even natural. This song is brilliant, I think Alex was talking about value their roots, their home, even though they're always on the road touring, and have to keep going, he acknowledges that Dorothy was right (there's no place like home). |

oh my, this song is about alexa. A fan asked her on twitter if she still thinks love is a laserquest and she said "no, i take it very seriously now" the whole SIAS album is about him having doubts and second thoughts about their relationship. Although he did said on a interview he hoped it wasn't about her, because in the song was over. And then few months later they broke up! anyways... this song is brilliant, one of the most amazing songs i've ever heard. Alex is a genius, for sure! |

alexa? lol don't think so (though I would love if it was about her) this is clearly about arielle, as the whole rest of the album. "Well, you cured my january blues Yeah, you made it all alright" January blues: when maybe he and alexa broke up. "You were a stranger in my phone book I was acting like I knew Cause I had nothing to lose, When the winter is in full swing and your dreams just aren’t coming true, Ain’t it funny what you’ll do?" I guess alex met arielle when he was recording suck it and see in LA, while he was still dating alexa, maybe?? In SIAS you can noticed that he was really suffering, and that his relationship was really falling apart. In many songs you can see him having doubts like in Reckless Serenade (I've been trying to figure out exactly what it is I mean, called up to listen to the voice of reason and got the answering machine). So, back to AM, i guess Arielle was playing hard to get with him for some reason, idk. In the others songs from AM you can also see him almost begging her to be with him, or like Do I Wanna Know that gives you that feeling when you're so in love and you really hope that person to feel the same way, but you don't really know. I think this album was all about him trying to win her heart. SIAS and AM were both very personal albums with very personal lyrics, you can almost picture some situations. |

this song is really amazing, one of their best tunes for sure. By the way, i don't get the reason why their best songs never make it to their albums. Anyways, I agree with sgt.pepper. I'm just not sure if there's a girlfriend in that story. But the major idea of is that boy meets girl in a night out, they fancy each other, then they sleep together, and afterwards come that feeling of emptiness, you know? when you shag someone that you don't even know and doesn't mean nothing to you, and the boy leaves quickly before dawn to avoid that awkward feeling. it really amazes me how someone in such a young age (alex was a teenager when he wrote it that tune) can put it out something so beautiful as this song. I reckon he's truly a lyric genius. |

First of all, someone said something about that song being about themselves. We have to consider that when alex wrote it that tune he wasn't even famous. Alex worked in many bars before he got famous, so this could be a situation he experienced a bunch of times. (I don't want to hear you, kick me out, kick me out). Like He was really annoyed with all the shit talk, really wanted to get out of there but he couldn't because he was working. So, IMO he's talking about some other band that probably made a lot of hype and buzz around themselves trying to act classy, pretending to be travelled, acting like rockstars (And all the weekend rockstars are in the toilets practicing their lines) Those guys were trying to imitate rockstars style by blowing cocaine at the toilet (?) anyways, then when the band came up on stage the audience realized they were shit and started to leave. And the final verse shown a alex really fed up with all of that phony talk/acting. Maybe he threw out that truths on that guys, maybe he did it only in his mind. I don't know, might be terrible wrong, but whatever! |

well, i see this song in many different perspectives. And I usually think by alex's point of view. I reckon by the time when he wrote it that tune he was getting really famous, and though he loved his girlfriend he wanted to break up with her to be free, and enjoy the perks of his new status. "Curiosity becomes a heavy load, to heavy to hold, will force you to be cold" i don't think that was about cheating, i really think this is about him getting curious, wanting to see the world and so he tried to end things by being cold hearted. "Do me a favour and break my nose, do me a favour and tell me to go away. Do me a favour and stop asking questions' I think he felt pretty guilty about leaving the poor girl for no reason. He just really wanted to get out of this relationship, and therefore he'd do anything to "tear apart the ties that bind". call me crazy, but i related that song with fluorescent adolescent, and by the time those songs were released alex was ending his relationship with johanna bennett, who co-whote FA. |

I agree with thirdnevillebrotheron on this one. When i've heard this song I thought about that lad in Brianstorm. I reckon that from alex perspective he's trying to alert the girl about this bad guy and at the same time acknowledging that there's no coming back for her, the girl is already hexed and screwed up. |
