I love this band. "Just as fast as our ship would float, We would sink beneath the surface From the holes In the floor Which we had both poked." Such a tasty and well-delivered metaphor about the mutual sabotage of a relationship. "Oh, the irony of you and me Always trying to drown one another." |

| In the last line, I like to think that the rain is a feeling of depression and apathy. | |

| @[acousticneuroma:1293] this makes a lot of sense. Cox's lyrics are some of the most interesting in indie music. | |

| wow that's an excellent interpretation of the lyrics. it cleared up a lot of the ambiguities of their concise lyrics. | |
| The Growlers – Living in a Memory Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This song is beautiful. Possibly my favorite of The Growlers. I think Nielsen realizes that although his past relationship went sour and that things are over with his past love, he still cannot help but quietly reminisce to himself about all of the nice memories he had with her, for example: "Memories of making love stronger than drugs; Memories of all the sweet things you said" He realizes it is unhealthy to be "living in a memory" when he says "hell it ain't no good for me," but since he can no longer be mutually in love with her, he instead reluctantly choses to be "in love with a memory." |

This song is awesome. What I believe Nielsen is trying to communicate is how his trip opened his mind, helped him acknowledge his negative feelings about his ex, and then helped him accept the past and move on. It's like the trip opened his mind enough for him to go through DABDA in a very short time. It reminds me of things I have read about certain physicians with knowledge of psychedelics helping people with terminal illnesses accept what's going to happen. Through the use of controlled trips with certain psychedelics, the patients are able to come to terms with their fate and exit the depressive state that knowing how much time they have left can cause. The cathartic psychedelic experience helps them reach a state of psychological and spiritual peace. |
