The song is one long metaphor. The collision is when the two become one - the intensity of their relationship, she bleeds for him. The opposite of love is indifference. When he realizes how in love with her he truly is, she's already been severally hurt by him. He knows to keep her hanging on, he needs to see her, because he knows he can make her fall in love again but only if he can get her in person.
