I doubt that you are the only one who thinks about him. I believe its more so about in what way everyone deals with their sadness from him being gone. We all grieve, mourn, and remember people in different ways. Find your special way to remember him, and then help others find a way to remember him. Giving is the best therapy :) |

Any great piece of art brings everyone to find a different meaning. I believe that this song is about a person (who struggled with substance abuse) that is dead and is having an immediately after death moment. The song begins and ends with "Say hello to the rug's topography". Everyone here agrees that someone is lying on the floor, I believe its someone who is dead. The next lines give a likely cause of death, being that alcohol and drugs can cause the brain to shrink. "So don't neglect it" could imply that the person denies the effect that substance abuse has had. I believe the chorus is describing the events right after death, with a woman (who must be a nurse, because he can't believe he's dead) who is leading him somewhere... and she's all dressed in white. She makes him feel wonderful, just as his drugs of choice do. The "apples on the ground" is the blood by his head, and he spit/choked/sneezed that out during his death. "Say hello to everything you've left behind. It's even more a part of your life now that you can't touch it" describes that he can see everything he's left behind in his life... family, friends, personal belongings, etc. He can no longer 'touch' these things because he is dead. And the end again, finishes with "Say hello to the rug's topography" points out that he's still on the ground and not going anywhere.. because he's dead. This of course, is just what I am taking from the song in this moment. Anybody else see any of that? |
